Opening an Australian Bank Account
Opening an Australian Bank Account can be confusing at times. One of our consultants will meet you once you arrive in Australia and will help you and take you through the process to make it easy and headache-free.
Main Australian Banks for International Students:
- Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA)
Please be aware that all the Banks will require your identification and some personal information that you will have to provide in order to open up your new account.
Tax File Number (TFN)
To be eligible to work in Australia you will need to request you Tax File Number (TFN). This is a number that you will have to give to any employer you are going to work for.
In order to obtain your on TFN you will need to submit an online application with the ATO (Australian Taxation Office) and will also need to provide an address in order to receive your TFN by post.
One of our consultants will assist you with the application and will answer any question you may have through the process.
Obtaining an Australian phone number
You can obtain a SIM card with a new number from many locations such as:
- Service Stations
- Phone Stores
- Convenient stores
- Post office
Once you purchase a pre-paid SIM card you will need to provide your details to register the phone number (Passport and some stores may ask for your current visa depending on the type of contract you choose). Then you can recharge your SIM card with different amounts of top up credit as you like. You can also get a contract for the time of your visa with a minimum amount paid monthly.
