If you are an international student in Australia, more than likely you have been affected by COVID-19 restrictions affecting your work, studies and general living.
Australia is allowing international students to access their superannuation in the 2019-2020 financial year as well as the 2020-2021 financial year. This will help many international students get through these hard times due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
You may be able to gain early access to your superannuation if you are in one of these following categories:
- Unemployed
On or after 1 January 2020:
- You have been made redundant
- Your working hours have been reduced by 20% or more
If you have your superannuation funds split between more than one superannuation company, you can withdraw from multiple accounts in the same financial year up to a maximum of $10,000 (within each financial year). For example, if you wish to withdraw $2000 you could withdraw $1,000 from one fund and $1,000 from another.
